Visionary Leadership
"Technology Coaches inspire and participate in the development and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive integration of technology to promote excellence and support transformational change throughout the instructional environment."
(From the ISTE NETS-C website).
As chairperson of the District Technology Committee, we meet on a monthly basis to discuss educational technology initiatives. This group consists of over 20 members, including all district administrators, parents, students, teachers, and other staff members. Meetings range from vendor presentations, how to initiate new technology with staff, grant applications, discussing pros and cons of the educational aspects of various technologies, and the like. Additionally, every three years we research and revise our technology plan. Some examples of technology plans and meeting minutes are listed at the bottom of this page.
1a. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students.
Since August of 2000 I have served as the chairperson of the District Technology Committee. Sample committee meeting minutes are listed below.
1b. Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels.
Since August 2000 I have been in charge of the technology budget for the school district. I research all educational technology, receive bids from vendors, purchase, and install and implement.
1c. Advocate for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of
the shared vision represented in the school and district technology plans and guidelines.
I have written and implemented many successful grants. These grants were more than funding "stuff," they actually prompted teachers to try different teaching strategies.
1d. Implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and manage the change process in schools and classrooms.
My vision is what drove the installation of interactive whiteboards, ceiling-mounted projectors, a 1:1 mobile technology initiative, and blended learning strategies through the use of a learning management system.
